Our
History
1920
Our history begins in Guatemala. Founded as Hermanos Kong in 1920 by Mr. Federico Kong Ossaye, a hard-working and visionary man with a great interest in the industrial modernization of Guatemala. He began his operations manufacturing laundry soap and personal hygiene products of excellent quality at good prices.
1955
In 1955 we were chosen by Colgate – Palmolive to begin production of the products with which they started operations in Guatemala.
1976
This is a date that marked the beginning of our participation in the beauty products market, both in the production and distribution of cosmetics. Industria La Popular, S.A. and Productos Finos, S.A. are founded as subsidiaries of Hermanos Kong and that is how REVLON, MAX FACTOR, SALLY HANSEN, ALMAY and COVERGIRL, internationally recognized brands, began to be part of our world.
2007
With the sole purpose of guaranteeing quality products, starting by perfecting our processes, we decided to adopt the ISO 9000:2008 system as the basic program to carry out all our operations, achieving the corresponding recertifications from that year to date.
2015
Grupo La Popular in the search for constant innovation acquires the Olimpo, Swift and Plus Cream brands. Being the starting point to develop the liquid products category in the Central American market.
2016
Thanks to the good results and constant growth of Grupo La Popular, this year we reached an agreement with Procter & Gamble to acquire the Fab detergent brand license for Central America, Belize, Panama, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru. This acquisition, in addition to consolidating our position in the region, allows us to enter the South American market.
2020
Thanks to our strategy of expansion and market strengthening, Grupo La Popular was able to acquire from Unilever the well-known brands Xtra, Surf, Rinso and Unox, focused on the laundry soap and bar detergent categories. This acquisition not only strengthens our presence in the region, but also positions us as a key player in the cleaning products sector, expanding our market opportunities.
